Here’s a glimpse of some of our high school students and teachers making their beautiful ‘krathongs’.
Krathong making is a traditional Thai craft that holds deep cultural significance and is particularly associated with the festival of Loy Krathong.
Making a ‘krathong’ is a meticulous process that requires skill and creativity. Students used banana leaves or other biodegradable materials as the base, intricately folding and shaping them into beautiful, lotus-like structures. These miniature floating masterpieces are adorned with vibrant flowers, candles, and incense, creating a visually stunning spectacle when set adrift.
Beyond their aesthetic appeal, ‘krathongs’ symbolize the release of negativity and the welcoming of good fortune.
The art of ‘krathong’ making not only preserves a cherished tradition but also fosters a sense of community and reverence for nature, as students come together to craft these symbolic vessels and pay homage to the elemental forces that sustain life.
