High School Course Offerings & Credit Requirements
XCL American School of Bangkok’s 4-year rigorous high school program enables students to acquire the foundational skills and the basic requirements needed for graduation. Some of the academic courses offered at XCL ASB include language arts, social studies, science (general science, biology, chemistry, and physics), math (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus and statistics), US History, Asian studies, world geography, economics, and psychology. Electives include American literature, British literature, creative writing, journalism, foreign language (French, Japanese, Spanish, Chinese, and Thai), computer science, music, art and drama.

Physical and social development also play an extremely important part in children’s education. XCL ASB high school students partake in drama, music, physical education, art and community-based activities.

Program Overview
XCL ASB High school program is divided into 4 years:
- Freshman Year: Freshman year is a time for students to get acclimated to high school and to start taking the core academic courses that they will need to graduate.
- Sophomore Year: Sophomore year is a time for students to continue taking the core academic courses and to start exploring their interests in elective courses.
- Junior Year: Junior year is a time for students to start preparing for college by taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses and by getting involved in extracurricular activities that will look good on their college applications.
- Senior Year: Senior year is a time for students to finalize their college plans, to take the SAT or ACT, and to enjoy their last year of high school.
The best high school program for a student will depend on their individual needs and interests. Some factors to consider when choosing a high school program include the school's academic reputation, its extracurricular offerings, and its location. Students should also visit the school and talk to current students and faculty to get a feel for the school's culture.
How to prepare for high school:

XCL ASB's Capstone program is a rigorous, two-year research program that develops critical thinking skills for college and beyond. Students engage in conversations about complex issues and complete a 5,000-word research thesis.

Who is Eligible for The Capstone Program?
- Well-qualified sophomores and juniors who have passed at least 5 AP classes.
- Selected by a committee and committed to completing the entire program.
The Capstone Program is a challenging but rewarding experience that helps students develop critical thinking skills, learn how to conduct research, and write a research paper.

Project-Based Learning in High School

Ninth Grade PBL
XCL ASB ninth graders worked with a local organization, Paper Rangers to create reusable notebooks from recycled paper.

Tenth Grade PBL
Students learn more about the environmental impact that the waste has created

Eleventh Grade PBL
Students partnered with Helping Hand Foundation to collect used items for charity. Donations helped fund healthcare for the elderly and the underprivileged.
